Arts Office eNews:: February 2012

This month we meet a 'guitar-lovin' Artist Among Us from the District of North Vancouver; welcome some graffitti-curbing public art; and, look up to the beautiful new street banners on Lonsdale that have been inspired by three great Canadian artists.

Plus, we want to hear from you! Input is being sought to help develop the North Vancouver Cultural Plan, the living document that will guide the ongoing development of arts and culture in the District and City of North Vancouver 2012 through 2025. Imagination mandatory!

The Arts Office team,
Ian, Barb, John and Lori

  • A goal for this City of North Vancouver Public Art project was to find a creative treatment for the MacKay Creek pedestrian overpass that was aesthetically pleasing, and that would also serve as a deterrent for unwanted graffitti. North Vancouver Squamish Nation artist Jody Broomfield rose to the challenge by applying a series of bright red salmon cut-outs to the sides of the bridge. Inspired by beautiful Coast Salish imagery, the salmon remind us of our responsibility to keep both our streams and our streets clean.
