It's summer, and we welcome the joy that comes with vacation time and celebrate the activities it offers to reconnect with ourselves, our neighbours and our communities. In summer, the North Shore comes alive with a vast array of arts, culture and heritage offerings in parks, town centres, in the street, and other unique gathering places.   • Concerts in the Square, a series of five open air concerts begins on Saturday, July 9 with headliner John Mann of Spirit of the West performing. The concerts will take place at Shipbuilders' Square located in the Shipyards area on the City's waterfront. And while you're waiting for the show to begin, take some time to explore Art on the Pier, a collection of outdoor exhibits along the waterfront walkway and pier from noon to 6pm. Presented by the City of North Vancouver, the Concerts in the Square series and Art on the Pier is FREE to the public. Gates open at noon with the headliner performance scheduled for 7:00pm.

  • Every July North Vancouver comes alive with the sights and sounds of 'carnival' as revelers rise up in celebration of the annual Caribbean Days Festival. On July 23 and 24 tens of thousands of exuberant fun-lovers descend on Waterfront Park for a weekend of tropical rhythm, cuisine, carnival and culture as only the Caribbean can offer. The Festival and Parade have grown to be one of the largest cultural events of its kind in British Columbia putting North Vancouver on the map as an exciting cultural tourism destination. The Caribbean Days Festival is FREE to attend, is open to all ages, is wheelchair accessible and close to public transportation.

  • North Shore musicians are out in full force this summer performing in parks, village centres, civic squares and stages by the sea. FREE and fun for the whole family, audiences will have an opportunity to hear local favourites along with hot, up-and-coming ensembles performing everything from traditional country to classic pop, swing, jazz, indie-eclectic, and everything in-between! The summer concert series provide both established and emerging performance artists with a great platform to really strut their stuff, and to receive the kind of public exposure that will help them find new fans, supporters and gigs!

  • North Vancouver's Presentation House Gallery focuses on photography and media art emphasizing contemporary Canadian work within a context of historical and international art. PHG endeavours to offer the community diverse experiences that will enrich viewers with new considerations about the world which they live. Last year, PHG opened the doors to the Satellite Gallery in downtown Vancouver in partnership with the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, and Museum of Anthropology. Their latest exhibition, 'Not Photographs', opens at the Satellite Gallery on July 8 and features new works by Vancouver based artists Damien Moppett and Andrea Pinheiro who use photographs as canvases on which new images are built.

  • The Musart Cultural Society recently announced the arrival of a new production crew member for their upcoming Cates Park Concert Series and Deep Cove Daze events. Jett Alexander Leighton Pearson was born April 30, 2021 to Musart Cultural Society President and Event Producer Tyler Pearson and his wife Tara. Musart produces the Cates Park Concert Series that kicks off on July 16. The series will showcase 27 local bands, featuring talented emerging artists every Saturday from July 16 through August 27. And Musart's other big event, the ever popular Deep Cove Daze, returns to Panorama Park on Sunday August 28 with live entertainment, local artisans, midway rides and activities for all. Mark your calendars for these FREE community events in the Cove!
