Painting and sketching “en plein air” also known as "painting outdoors", allow artists to see, feel, smell and touch the reality of the amazing world in which we live.  As an Urban Design Planner with the District of North Vancouver, Alfonso Tejada's passion for painting "en plein"  informs the work he does on the job planning living environments. “My interest in the townscape and the richness of public places are the main subjects in my paintings. Colour and light, people and culture are all connected in my work as an artist and in my everyday job."

  • Caroline Jackson, Professional Musician + Community Energy Manager

One of the most rewarding aspects of Caroline Jackson's work as a Community Energy Manager with the City of North Vancouver is connecting with the community. It's the same connection that inspires her while playing the cello as a member of Lions Gate Sinfonia Orchestra. "I think that art and culture connects people in a way that nothing else can. There’s nothing like the feeling of playing a beautifully expressive piece of music, and the connection with the other musicians, the soloist, and the audience – it’s just an amazing experience."
