  • The Laudate Singers (pictured above) were among the North Shore based arts organizations who will receive financial support through the Arts Office grants programs. On May 6th, 2013, Councils for the City and District of North Vancouver approved 2013 Operating Grants to groups providing year round creative activities. Councils also approved the second round of Project Grants in support of projects, activities, events and festivals that take place in the period from July to December, 2013.

  • A big thank you to all who came to the North Shore Culture Days INFO+IDEAS session last month. Thanks also goes out to those who couldn't make the session but have confirmed their interest in participating in this year's celebrations. There was lots of discussion about creative partnering, e.g., painting demos in hotel lobbies; food demos in artist studios; public art bicycle tours; and community storytelling. North Shore Culture Days happens September 27, 28, 29, 2013 in creative spaces and places from Deep Cove to Horseshoe Bay. Clearly, the creative juices are beginning to flow!

  • Artist, upcycler extraordinaire, and web designer at the City of North Vancouver, local arts maven Denise Corcoran can now add the title of Cultural Ambassador to her growing list of credits. In response to a Call for Artists put out by the BC Culture Days Task Force, Denise was chosen to represent British Columbia at the inaugural Culture Days National Congress in Toronto happening at the end of May. In addition to connecting with artists and community organizers from across the country, Denise will have plenty of time to wave the flag for Culture Days activities happening across BC.... including, of course, our very own North Shore Culture Days celebrations.

  • This North Vancouver-based community orchestra has been stepping out this spring with a series of outreach concerts here on the North Shore – and beyond! The NSCO's first stop was the St. James Music Academy, a music education program in east Vancouver that offers top notch training for youth at no cost. In addition to being impressed by the high quality of playing, NSCO members described the St. James musicians as being "very welcoming and smiley.”

  • Having trouble with a painting? Looking for some feedback to take your artistic practice to another level? Silent Poetry, a new fine art studio in North Vancouver shared by local artists Sharka Leigh and Sandrine Pelissier, offers a mentoring program for artists of all levels called ART4U Thursdays.  Artists can bring their own material and can ask Sharka and Sandrine questions about technique, composition or process, or simply enjoy the company of other artists in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

  • The ON! event calendar is the North Shore's 'go to' resource for creative activities, outings, openings, and more! We're here to support the creative community and to make sure that everyone is aware of the abundance of talent that surrounds us here on Vancouver's North Shore.
