[closed] Expressions of Interest - North Vancouver Spirit Trail Public Art

August 24, 2020 - The District of North Vancouver Public Art Program, coordinated through the North Vancouver Arts Office is currently accepting Expressions of Interest from artists or artist teams to create and install a public artwork on the 'western' section of the North Vancouver Spirit Trail.

The goal of this public art project is to create an inventive landmark feature that will serve as a “must see” destination point along the Spirit Trail. The site selected for the artwork is situated at a juncture between two roadways, industrial lands and natural parkland, providing a perfect convergence point for the placement of a vertical element.

OVERVIEW

PUBLIC ART OBJECTIVES

  • Deliver an aesthetically significant impact at the corner of 1st Street and Welsh Ave;
  • Provide a direct correlation with at least one unique site specific element;
  • Provide ongoing interest for regular commuters;
  • Be sensitive to the District of North Vancouver’s goals for creating sustainable design.


BUDGET - $20,000

Artwork budget must be inclusive of all costs including but not limited to: artist fees, design development, studio overhead, consultant fees, artwork fabrication, site preparation, travel, transportation, installation, and insurance. The artist will be responsible for General Public Liability insurance in the amount of two million dollars.

ELIGIBILITY

this Public Art Call as been prepared to solicit responses from professional Artists or Artist Teams living in British Columbia. The successful Artist will be required to work closely with members of the Project Design Team and with other design and/or construction consultants as required, in order to meet all necessary technical scheduling and maintenance parameters.
