Edgemont Clock

2004
Artist: Lee, Derek & Travassos, Fatima
Neighbourhood: Edgemont
Category: Community
Status: Existing
Sponsor: District of North Vancouver
Description:

In 1998, when the Bank of Montreal decided to re-model their Edgemont Village Branch, this resulted in the removal of the pedestrian clock. Soon thereafter local residents set out to raise money to purchase and donate a clock for the village centre.

The community-led group raised sufficient funds to purchase and install a four-sided clock and hire an artist to add a creative touch at the base.

The design of the base includes a combination of large bronze gears meant to to reflect time as seen in the inner workings of the clock. Inscribed on the surface of one of the gears is a poetic description explaining the gear’s significance:

“The gear is a symbol of the eternal cycle of life, with a break representing the difficult times that are inevitable in one’s journey through time.”
