Cultural Mapping Toolkit

A cultural map is an inventory and analysis of a community's cultural resources and corresponding patterns of usage by the public. Mapping helps communities take stock of the existing cultural environment: their strengths, challenges, aspirations and gaps. A cultural mapping project achieves the following:

  • Establishes the groundwork for a cultural plan and cultural tourism strategy
  • Encourages a consultation process to promote community engagement
  • Helps community leaders gain an understanding of the community's interests and concerns
